WORK HISTORY

RIDING THE WAVE

University of York

Lead Robotics Technician

Sep 2023 - Present || York, UK

I run the Robotics Teaching Laboratory (P/T/410) in Campus West as lead robotics technician. My responsibilities include:

  • Organising and executing necesary tasks and projects using Microsoft Project and Trello.

  • Processing and assembling mechanical manufacturing job requests for student and PhD projects.

  • Programming a general kinematics interface in python to simplify the control of two Automata EVA Robot arms used for teaching and research. Also developed a wall-following algorithm on a mobile robot for a showcase of the laboratory facilities to high school students.

  • Designing, fabricating and maintaining a magnetic obstacle system and LED visual light system for a custom-built robotics teaching and research arena.

  • Managing two other technicians at running the laboratory facilities. Distributing tasks and monitoring their progress.

University of York

Laboratory Technician - Robotics

Apr 2023 - Present || York, UK

When I started as a robotics technician, my main responibility was to deliver technical support as a member of the school's technical team, primarily to the robotics teaching laboratory in the School of Physics, Engineering and Tecnology in Campus West. This included:

  • Sourcing, configuring, installing and preparing equipment for practical laboratory sessions, as well as developing software and hardware infrastructure, such as Arduino, C++ and Python code demos, and designing a maze-arena using Autodesk Inventor for a mobile robot localisation project.

  • Providing support for group projects when needed, and assisting MSc and PhD students when facing issues during individual projects, such as the development of a pick and place algorithm for a robot arm.

  • Manufacturing specialist electronic and mechanical parts for students and academic staff, including PCB manufacturing, machining, laser cutting, 3D-printing and the use of CAM equipment.

  • Ensuring taught practicals and assessments are run safely and in a tidy and efficient manner, as well as setting up and taking down the equipment and consumables required for taught practical sessions.

Labman Automation

Graduate Robotics Software Engineer

Aug 2022 - Mar 2023 || Stokesley, UK

Labman designs and builds custom robotic solutions for many industrial, laboratory and medical applications worldwide. As a Graduate Software Robotics Engineer I:

  • Participated in the design, development and deployment of software products for factory and laboratory automation projects for international clients.

  • Designed and implemented user interfaces in XAML and control software in C#, using the .NET WPF framework. Implemented the configuration of new hardware devices using system specific APIs and C#.

  • Managed database communication and data-storing utilising MySQL, SQLYog and Linq queries.

  • Tested and increased throughput tenfold of a cap-feeder system, developed control software for vial-weighing robot, and integrated custom particle sizer instrument into a material analysis robotic system, among other projects.

Atlas Live Timing

Junior Software Developer

Oct 2022 - Nov 2022 || Stokesley, UK

ATLAS develops advanced hardware and software platforms for live athlete data tracking and analysis. While working for ATLAS, I:

  • Developed a test console application in .NET WPF to read Bluetooth Low-Energy Pods and output their name, signal strength and timestamp. Used to test a new antenna device to improve data capturing on finish line during races.

  • Communicated with SQL database to store BLE data. Displayed data in public server and altered JavaScript based web-interface using React.js.

Museo Reina Sofía + Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM)

Photogrammetry & Mechatronics Specialist

Nov 2021 - Jun 2022 || Madrid, Spain

I led an engineering research team on designing and manufacturing an autonomous mechatronic system for Reina Sofía Museum, capable of taking photos orthogonally of paintings and sculptures at different positions and distances, while actively adjusting focus and aperture depending on the topological characteristics of the figure.

  • Coded and implemented user interface in MATLAB for easy manipulation and calibration of robotic system, as well as facilitation of manual control.

  • Automated rendering of pictures for digital mesh reconstruction of target objects, generating 3D models of figures through spectrophotogrammetry for cultural heritage preservation and assistance with image reconstruction techniques.

CSH Translation

Spanish Teacher

Feb 2021 - Apr 2022 || Remote

CSH Translation is an award-winning translation and language learning agency located in Miami, Florida. During my time at CSH, I:

  • Mentored a high school student from Miami basic Spanish vocabulary, grammar and conversational skills through online lessons, corrected errors and revised basic concepts when required.

  • Prepared varied lessons focused on vocabulary acquisition and grammar comprehension, assessed progress, organised, and requested exercises.
